Mickey Beisman has represented
large and small contractors in, among other projects, office building construction; parking structure construction; condominium construction; water treatment plant construction; the installation of low-profile cranes; courthouse construction; grocery store construction; sports stadium construction; zoo construction, materials recycling facilities construction; and power generating systems construction.
As a former Vice-President/Corporate Counsel for Bradbury Stamm Construction Company, Ms. Beisman
understands the pressures of putting a bid together, the no-win situation of replacing a
subcontractor, potential delays in the change order process, an owner's failure to timely respond to RFIs, a rise in concrete and steel prices, the responsibility for testing, and, in general, all of the details of day-to-day construction.
Having represented a variety of contractors on a wide variety of projects, Ms. Beisman offers the following tips to contractors, whether they are on a public or a private construction project:
1. READ AND KNOW YOUR CONTRACT;
2. HAVE CLEAR AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND SUBCONTRACTS;
3. BE FAITHFUL ABOUT ENTERING YOUR DAILY REPORTS;
4. KEEP A RECORD OF WHEN YOU SUBMITTED AND RECEIVED RESPONSES TO REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION; AND
5. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE END OF YOUR PROJECT TO SETTLE THE DISPUTES.
